28DIGITAL focuses its strategic activities on three core technology domains central to Europe’s competitiveness, sovereignty, and values based digital transformation:

  • Deep Tech – including artificial intelligence (generative and agentic AI), cybersecurity, advanced semiconductors, high performance and advanced computing, and quantum technologies, driving innovation, productivity, and resilience across key sectors such as manufacturing, industry, mobility, finance, health, and public services.
  • Strategic Technologies – covering security , defence , space  and sovereignty critical capabilities, including dual use technologies and core digital infrastructures essential for Europe’s strategic autonomy in a changing geopolitical context.
  • Green & Social Technologies – advancing the twin digital and green transition through sustainable digital solutions, energy efficient infrastructures, and technologies addressing societal challenges such as inclusion, demographic change, and regional cohesion.

Our mother legal entity, 28DIGITAL IVZW, is a non-for-profit Association under Belgian law and has its head office in Brussels, Belgium. 28DIGITAL has an additional 14 offices in Europe in more than a dozen European countries, a hub in Silicon Valley, and is actively expanding its European office network.

Role of the 28DIGITAL Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board has a supervisory and non-operational function, overseeing the activities of 28DIGITAL and monitoring the definition, approval and fulfilment of the Strategy. It meets four times a year, virtually or face to face. Furthermore, work on specific topics may be performed.

The Supervisory Board appoints the CEO and the Management Committee (MC) members, supervises their work and discusses and approves strategic decisions that guide the organisation, which are developed and proposed by the MC.

Composition of the Supervisory Board

28DIGITAL IVZW Supervisory Board is diverse, not only in terms of experience and professional backgrounds, but also in terms of geographic spread, generational connection and gender.

The Supervisory Board is composed of 5 independent members, 5 partner representatives and a Chairperson (also an Independent Director). It has three committees: Finance, Nomination and Strategy committees.

Supervisory Board Members are elected by the General Assembly upon the Nomination committee recommendations. Members are appointed for a term of two years, which can be renewed twice by the General Assembly (in total, a maximum of 6 years).

Profile looked for

Supervisory Board candidates should fit the following profile:

  • Proven track record in the digital sector in Europe, ideally with a strong international dimension and a relevant network; preferably with already existing board experience.
  • Passion for innovation & entrepreneurship, as well as the willingness and motivation to become a forceful ambassador for 28DIGITAL.
  • Neither directly nor indirectly holds an interest in a 28DIGITAL Member, does not act for a Member
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • To ensure a mix of backgrounds in the Supervisory Board, we are looking for candidates with one or more of the following backgrounds:
    • Innovation credibility: people who have experience in digital innovation and technology, who are considered top-notch in the digital deep tech community.
    • Strong expertise in deep tech, strategic technologies, and/or green and social technologies (i.e. Data, AI & Platform governance, Cybersecurity & Digital Resilience – see technology domains above).
    • Leading commercial growth: people who have been creating, leading and scaling digital businesses at an international level, experience in corporate innovation programs.
    • Entrepreneurial education: people who have experience in digital higher education.
    • Financial and fundraising expertise: venture capitalists/investors/investment bankers in the digital industry, including start-ups or people with a financial management background with a major player in the sector.
    • Multi-country/pan-European ecosystem management.

Expenses and offered compensation

Supervisory Board members are entitled to financial compensation connected to their participation in board meetings and committee activities.
