Calling All Startups: 28DIGITAL Is Scouting the Next Physical AI Innovators for STMicroelectronics

28DIGITAL has launched a new strategic scouting initiative on behalf of global semiconductor leader STMicroelectronics.

As artificial intelligence moves beyond digital environments and into the physical world, a new class of machines is emerging that can perceive, interpret, and interact with their surroundings in real time.

This field, known as Physical AI, encompasses AI systems embedded in physical devices and robots that act autonomously in the real world and is rapidly reshaping how machines operate across every sector of the economy.

To support this evolution, STMicroelectronics seeks innovative startups operating across areas such as sensing, processing and control, connectivity, visualization, power management, and actuation technologies. These technologies enable intelligent machines to operate safely, efficiently, and autonomously in real-world environments.

Priority is given to innovations that can benefit from, or integrate with, advanced semiconductor technologies, and that address deployment challenges in the healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, mobility, and service industries.

What STMicroelectronics Is offering

The objective is to establish meaningful, long-term industrial collaborations with selected startups focused on growth, technical excellence and scaling innovation for the real world. Selected startups will work alongside ST to explore high-impact pathways that may include technology co-development, product integration and proof-of-concept (POC) activities, ecosystem partnerships and commercial relationships.

Participants gain access to STMicroelectronics' global network of technical experts and innovation resources, including the opportunity to evaluate and leverage ST technologies, as well as access to prototyping capabilities such as multi-project wafer (MPW) runs, throughout their development, validation, and scaling journey.

The initiative also offers visibility within a leading global technology ecosystem and the potential to build lasting strategic relationships.

The program builds on STMicroelectronics' longstanding commitment to open innovation, including its ST for Startups program, and on its established partnership with 28DIGITAL, Europe's largest digital innovation ecosystem, in connecting industry with the next generation of deep-tech innovators.

As Physical AI continues to transform industries worldwide, the collaboration between semiconductor leaders and breakthrough technology companies will be decisive in turning bold innovations into scalable, real-world solutions.

"Physical AI is one of the most consequential technological shifts of our time, and Europe needs to be at the centre of it. At 28DIGITAL, we bring together the startups, the industry partners, and the innovation infrastructure to make that happen. This initiative with STMicroelectronics is exactly the kind of deep, strategic collaboration that turns emerging technology into real industrial impact," said Diva Tommei, Chief Innovation Officer, 28DIGITAL.

“At ST, we believe that the next wave of semiconductor innovation will be shaped also by the convergence of deep tech expertise from leading players and startup agility. Through strategic partnerships with forward-thinking organizations like 28DIGITAL, we are actively building the collaborative infrastructure needed to identify, nurture, and scale the technologies that will define tomorrow, from Physical AI to intelligent, connected systems. Our commitment goes beyond engagement, we are here to co-create, co-invest, and co-accelerate with the brightest emerging players in the global innovation ecosystem,” said Giuseppe Desoli, General Manager, Innovation Office, STMicroelectronics.

Deadline for applications: 27 July 2026.
